About LPU:
A century and a half has slipped by since the foundation of the
oldest Ukrainian higher technical educational establishment, which is well
known because of its works in the field of science and engineering. A
significant number of prominent scientists, who had left their bright mark
in science, have worked here in this period. Among them there are such known
specialists as V. Aulikh, V. Mozer, S. Frize, W. Krukovskiy, R. Zalozetskiy,
Yu. Medvedskiy, K. Bartel, M. Huber, S. Banach, Yu. Zaharevich, A. Kurylo,
K. Vaigel, I. Levinskiy, G. Sokolnitskiy, O. Kharkevich, O. Karandeyev,
B.Shvetskiy, I. Vyshenchuk, O. Andriyevskiy, M. Komarov, T. Hubenko, T.
Yurzhenko, V. Kiyanitsia, D. Tolopko, Yu. Velychko, M. Shulga who were
successfully carrying out their investigations in the fields of instrument
building and electrical engineering, mechanics and mathematics, geodesy,
building and architecture, chemistry and chemical technology.
150 years is an instant for a History, but it is also a time for
prosperity, daring and new intentions for our university. Today the body of
"Lvivska Polytechnica" is full of creative power, hope and expectance.
The scientific potential of State University "Lvivska Polytechnica"
consists of 2336 persons, among them there are 115 doctors of sciences and
1036 candidates of sciences.
The development of industry called for a life the new fields of
production, gave the incitement for the research work, started the creation
of the entire scientific and research bodies. Today, the investigations at "Lvivska
Polytechnica" on the 16 basic directions are being done by the subdivisions
of the scientific and research department of the university, which consists
of: scientific research and designing institute for vibro acoustic
measurements; special design bureau for electric-mechanical systems; two
scientific research departments of radio technical systems and semiconductor
electronic sensors, 12 branch laboratories and 81 scientific research
laboratories. Most of them obtain the research manufacture or research
plots.
The scientific work at the university has its own specifics: it must
be combined with educational process according to the specialists training
profile. The basic scientific directions, which were worked out at the
university, completely correspond to this condition.
The latest achievements of basic sciences in contemporary techno sphere and
such overlapping branches as environmental science, sociology, architecture,
economy, biology are used effectively. A considerable number of them holds a
priority positions in the world science and engineering, namely: creation of
automated control devices; complex measuring devices with a high accuracy
and reliability; computer devices and programmers; new materials and
technologies for electronics; investigations of radio electronic
informational devices, creation of low-speed electric aggregates without a
reducing gear as a part of momentary motors, speed-data transmitters and
angle-data transmitters for astro-observational systems, linear displacement
sensors, creation of mathematic models of electromechanical transducers and
systems; synthesis and production of monomers, polymers, composite
materials, creation of new technologies and equipment for chemical industry,
elaboration of methods and means for astronomic-geodesic measurements and
aerospace survey, etc.
A large scope of scientific investigations at the university is done
according to the themes of Ukrainian Ministry of Education, Ukrainian State
Committee on the Issues of Science and Technologies, State Fund of Basic
Investigations. The scientists of "Lvivska Polytechnica" State University
keep a permanent contact with enterprises and organizations of Lviv Region
and other regions of Ukraine, countries of CIS, and carry out the applied
scientific research works and services according to their order. Only during
last three years they have worked out: 175 articles, among them there are
instruments, devices, equipment, building constructions, orienting modules,
etc; 32 new materials and mixtures; 103 technological processes; 32 packages
of applied programmes, algorithms, and other mathematical support, and also
different methodical materials for different branches of industry. At
present over 2,000 originals of constructional and programming documents
were registered under the code of the university.
A significant number of scientific and technical works are notable
for their high quality, and their novelty and high level are certified by
protecting documents for inventions. During last three years 1700 such
documents were received. The results of scientific investigations were
reflected in scientific publications: 64 monographs, over 6,000 articles in
different scientific editions, over 200 of which - abroad, were published;
176 works were demonstrated at different exhibitions, including 31 - abroad.
The best scientific works were honored with 44 medals and diplomas.
Lviv State University "Lvivska Polytechnica" is developing
successfully its foreign-economic activity: it was on of the first among
higher educational establishments, which were registered as participants of
foreign-economic relations. 9 contracts for export of the results of
scientific and research activity were signed with Bulgarian, Polish,
Canadian companies. The scientific investigations are being carried out
according to the order of the foreign companies.
The scientists of "Lvivska Polytechnica" won the recognition of the
scientific community: 23 of them became the members of the Ukrainian Academy
of Sciences; 57 scientists are the members of the expert boards of Ukrainian
Ministry of Education, a title of honored man of science and engineering of
Ukraine and honored inventor of Ukraine was awarded to many of our
scientists. The following scientists became the prize-winners of Ukrainian
State Reward in the field of science and engineering: I. Vyshenchuk, E.
Soholovskiy, Yu. Yuzevych (1970) - for the elaboration and introduction of
modern high-precise and high-reliable computing devices; I. Vyshenchuk, R.
Kurdydyk, O. Holosha, A. Konopkin, V. Poziaykin (1985) - for the elaboration
of theoretical principles for the construction of measuring devices of
integrating type; M. Nikolayev and S. Dyakivskiy (1988) for the elaboration
and investigation of the compact insulators from the hardened two-alkaline
glass for the electric power networks of a high and super high-voltage and
their introduction into the industrial manufacturing; V. Perkhach (1991) -
for the textbook on power engineering; B. Stadnyk, Yu. Sanotskiy (1991) -
for the elaboration and developing of mass automated production of effective
method of temperature measuring of metals melt.
